E-portfolio Work Day
Today we had two guest speakers come in. It was an excellent kick off to the first meeting as they gave us an informative presentation on budgeting, incomes and volunteering. These are all topics that I am greatly interested in so it made their presentation all the more interesting.

The best part of the presentation was at the end. They had a game of life based hands on activity which we played. The idea of the game was that we would be given smarties to represent our money, Certain items in the game cost more than others however all were essential in some way.
It was a good practice of budgeting and spending without any real serious consequences. We learned to think about what was an 'important' expense and what was extra.
In our meeting today we did a program called YouScience to accurately understand our learning methods, ideal career paths, though I was frustrated at first because the program didn't work on my laptop, when I got home and tried it again later I found it to be interesting.

YouScience is a personality test that uses a creative questionere to collect different results and compare answers with a data pool of matching responses. The responses are condensed down to a few responses and and best fitting response will be sent back. Its not completely perfect but it is well thought through and relatively easy to do.

By using this method of personality testing our future employers or professors or even future internships may further understand a good form of , teaching and understanding its employees and seeing if they are a good fit for the company or not.
In this meeting we talking a lot about where exactly needed our help. Although our man focus was toys for tots. We decided to make it our goal to raise money and collect toys for them in a bin. We all were impacted by the idea that not many of those kids get toys like they should have to develop.

We created posters and made a bin to fill with toys. We even asked around our work place and made a few school announcements. Although frustratingly wed find that it was unreasonably hard to find anyone willing to donate.

This served as a life lesson for many of us. We learned how difficult it can be to start a fundraiser especially near the holidays. We also learned how impactful it is though and just how much the kids would smile when they saw their gifts.
Final meeting was our e-portfolio work day. We sat aside time to add finishing touches and submit our e-portfolio. Our e-portfolio took many hours out of many students but in the future it will prove very helpful.

I believe that the e-portfolio will gain in popularity along the work field. Not only that but it says a lot about a person if they would put hours aside for a thorough breakdown of themselves then rather make a short resume and call it a day.

Employers will be able to hire others easily if they have a more clear breakdown of who they are. E-portfolios do that, they are more personal and even look so much cleaner than resumes. It is a very professional way of getting your foot in at a business.
